The Effect of Air Pollution

 

The heavy polluted air in China


As we know, air pollution affects our lives and environment. The effects can be short-term or long-term. These are the examples of effects caused by air pollutions.

Health Effects

  • Short-term effects that can be realize fast like a burn feeling on eyes and nose, throat irritation and make breathing difficult
  • Pneumonia and bronchitis
  • In a report from UK, Government experts concluded that people die prematurely between 12,000 to 24,000 every year as a result of short-term exposure to air pollution
  • The increase of asthma attacks. The incidence of asthma appears doubled in the last 15 years due air pollution.
  • The reaction of pollutants with natural sensitizers can increase the incidence of allergies,such as hay fever
  • Some highly toxic chemicals released in the air such as benzene or vinyl chloride can cause cancer, birth defects, and lung injury in long-term period
  • Cystic fibrosis - increased risk of pulmonary exacerbations and decrease of lung functions due air polution particles such as automobiles emissions, smoke, and tabacco smokes.
  • Strokes, heart disease, cardiovascular disease, lung cancer, and other lung infections
  • University of Rochester Medical Center discovered that early exposure to air pollution can damage brain and nerve such as autism, schizophrenia, short-term memory, and lack of learning ability.
 
Early exposure of air pollution can damage child's brain in a long term.

Environmental Effects

  • Climate change due to some chemical content within the regional and global air
  • Ozone layer depletion
  • Toxic air and Acid Rain casued by sulfur dioxideand nitrogen oxides in the air that can damage plants, wildlifes, and the body of water
  • Raise of temperature and sea level

Air Pollution and Its Effect on Economy

Air pollution also has significant impact on the economic side. Each day, air pollution causes thousands of illnesses leading to lost days at work and school. Air pollution and acid rain can also reduces agricultural crop productivity that cause a huge loss each year.
